Schermo nero da Stable 8 a 9

Un saluto a tutto il forum
A distanza di un anno riprendo qui un mio problema che non sono mai riuscito a risolvere e che persiste a distanza di tempo.
Ho un notebook HP con scheda grafica ATI Radeon R7 M260/265.
Sul pc avevo installato tempo fa la vecchia versione stabile di debian (8) e abilitato i driver proprietari FGLRX, in quanto con quelli open la risoluzione restava 800x600. Il Kernel installato era il 3.16. e come desktop manager Xfce e Kde
Ho quindi proceduto dopo diversi mesi di attesa a passare alla nuova stable (9) installando nuovamente la vecchia versione 8 (ho formattato tutto), per poi passare alla attuale 9 tramite Synaptic (ho solo repository main contrib non-free).

Quindi al boot ora è presente il nuovo kernel 4.9 ed il vecchio 3.16 con desktop manager Xfce e Gnome
Il problema però è sempre lo stesso, il sistema si avvia in modalità grafica solo con il kernel 3.16 e con risoluzione 800x600 (ho volutamente evitato di installare driver proprietari), mentre se provo con il nuovo kernel appare solo una schermata nera (anche se credo che in realtà il sistema sia caricato ma manchi proprio la grafica..).
Purtoppo a distanza di quasi 2 anni non riesco ad utilizzare il nuovo kernel, il quale dovrebbe avere il supporto migliorato per la mia scheda video. Ho il sospetto (ma sono inesperto), che forse il problema non sia dovuto al kernel, ma forse a Xorg, che se non ho capito male (ma forse sbaglio), nella nuova stable non è più presente perché sostituito da un altro sistema...

Qualcuno ha qualche soluzione ?

Ciao,
dato che non lo menzioni ti chiedo se hai installato eventuali firmware per la scheda in questione.

sudo apt-get install firmware-amd-graphics

magari prima controlla se effettivamente il kernel segnala delle mancanze in merito :

sudo dmesg|grep -i firmware

Innanzitutto ciao e grazie

Allora, avevo già installato il pacchetto firmware-amd-graphics, e dal comando che mi hai detto, l'unico problema è una mancanza per il bluetooth di Intel

Forse da /var/log/Xorg.0.log è possibile capire qualcosa di più sulla natura del problema, se ti è possibile postalo oppure allegalo.

Il log riporta effettivamente degli errori .... prova a installare questo pacchetto se non già presente.

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu

questo non c'era in jessie, magari avendo fatto un upgrade non si è installato.
Eventualmente riposta nuovamente il log per vedere se cambia qualcosa a livello di messaggi / segnalazioni.

Grazie ma avevo già installato anche quel pacchetto..
Non capisco perché non si avvii.. comincio a pensare che forse è un problema di wland che ha sostituito xorg
(cosi credo),,

wayland non risulta che supporti XFCE, tra l'altro non è installato di default con Debian. Se ti sei avventurato con wayland purtroppo non sono in grado di darti nessuna dritta.

Era solo una mia supposizione. ho installato da zero la 8 e poi ho fatto il passaggio a Strecth

Aggiungo queste informazioni se per caso potessero essere utili anche solo per curiosità..
In questi mesi ho provato più volte ad installare in LIVE diverse distro (OpenSuse, Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, ecc..), tutte con kernel dalla serie 4 in poi nella speranza di far funzionare il portatile.
Ma tutte non si avviavano, sempre e solo schermata nera all'avvio o dopo un breve inizio di installazione.
L'unica distro che è possibile avviare ed installare è Debian 8 o la vecchia 7...
La cosa mi fa pensare che vi sia un qualcosa che manchi nel kernel serie 4.. o forse che è stato modificato in Xorg..

Il portatile l'ho comprato 2 anni fa, quindi non si può dire che sia antiquato..
