Salve a tutti,
ho un problema con il mio portatile...
Iniziamo dicendo che ho un laptop Acer TM 3040 e la mia distro è una debian lenny 5.0 aggiornata quotidianamente...
Da qualche giorno, inspiegabilmente e senza alcuna apparente correlazione con il software avviato, lo schermo mi diventa nero e inizia a lampeggiare. Per l'esattezza lampeggia il sistema di illuminazione del monitor, mentre la schermata rimane nera; ogni tanto compare un cursore in alto in modalità "Ins", ma l'unica azioneche mi è consentita è quella di premere il puslante dispegnimento. A quel punto il sistema si ferma normalmente con la schermata del "system halting", come se avessi premuto il tasto di accensione con il pc funzionante.
C'è da dire che a lavoro ho un secondo monitor, e lo stesso accade anche quando uso quello...

Ovviamente non saprei come e dove cercare un log per un errore del genere... può essere che un aggiornamento abbia corrotto qualcosa? oppure non saprei proprio come e cosa cercare...

Il problema è che non succede sempre... sembra essere un processo che si innesca in maniera random...
Hai idea dove posso andare a leggere una lista di errori? una sorta di log di errori?

Come al solito per una buona diagnosi bisogna isolare la parte "malata". L'indiziato numero 1 è ovviamente X. Quindi quando ti succede, la prima cosa da fare è premere Ctrl-Alt-F1 per vedere se le console virtuali funzionano ancora.

Se non compare nulla, il sistema si è proprio "congelato".

Se invece compare la console, vuol dire che è "solo" morto X. Puoi ancora loggarti come root e far ripartire X, oppure leggerti direttamente da console i log di X (ovviamente in /var/log).

Non sapendo cos'altro fai girare sul tuo computer, che Desktop usi, ecc. non posso aiutarti oltre.

ciao cortese (di nome e di fatto... ehehe)

allora, come ho già detto il problema è random e sembra non avere una causa scatenante specifica... Quindi (intanto ora so quali sono i file di log che devo andare a vedere o almeno spero ossia Xorg.0.log e Xorg.20.log, giusto? se ce ne sono altri... quali sono?) a meno che il file di log non sia in qualche modo eterno, dovrei andare a leggere il log subito dopo il problema (altrimenti se ho capito bene il log viene sovrascritto...)

I miei dati sono:

Acer TM 3040 (Centrino Duo, 2 GB Ram, XP e Debian come OS)
Debian Lenny (periodicamente aggiornata...)

Neanche a farlo apposta che subito dopo aver postato... me se è spento il monitor...
Ho provato a far riavviare X (con startx e gdm) ma mi dava sempre lo stesso errore (che riporto nella prima citazione). C'è da dire che per la prima volta (terminando X con CTRL+ALT+F1) si è accorto che X dava problemi e (tramite schermata blu) mi ha detto che X non è correttamente settato...

Solo qualche precisazione.

Penso che i "lampeggi" che denunciavi nel primo post siano i tentativi falliti di lanciare X. Infatti se usi GDM, lo script omonimo si occupa di lanciare X, poi il login grafico e poi resta in attesa. Se X termina per qualsiasi motivo (un crash o tu che premi Ctrl-Alt-Backspace), prova subito a rilanciarlo. Dopo averlo lanciato troppe volte in breve tempo (ecco i lampeggi!) capisce che c'è qualcosa che non va e dà forfait (se non erro, quando questo succede, lascia un messaggio di errore nella tua home directory: noti qualche file "sospetto"?).

Pensi che basti cambiare "intel" in "i810"? secondo te... potrei fare casini vari irreversibili??? (quando cambio queste cose ho sempre il terrore di non riuscire più a riaccendere...)

p.s.: ho provato a far ripartire (per l'appunto) X, ma alla fine ha dato forfait tramite schermata blu (dicendo appunto che non riusciva a far ripartire X). Tuttavia, non ho file "sospetti" come dici te sulla home directory, se non per un "xsession-errors", ma l'ho spulciato e parla solo delle applicazioni che hanno generato warning-errori durante l'attuale sessione (quindi tutte le precedenti sono andate perse...)
